A Predetermined Attitude

Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. –Colossians 3:13 ESV

To enter into, maintain, and nurture a healthy, happy, intimate relationship, whether it be as a parent, spouse, or friend, we must enter that relationship with one predetermined attitude: forgiveness. Everyone will eventually offend us, disappoint us, or let us down; we’re all human. When we enter into a relationship already forgiving them before an offense happens, it makes it so much easier to forgive when an offense actually does occur.Forgiveness is not just an earthly need either. We are forgiven daily by God. We’re forgiven for our past, present, and future sins because of Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross. That agape kind of love never fails. Imagine what it would be like if you went to the Father for forgiveness and He gave you the cold shoulder, ignored you, or made you feel worthless. Instead, like the father of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32, God runs to meet you when you come to Him for forgiveness. Grace covers a multitude of sins. Let us show that same type of love to those around us.

prayer focuses

Forgiveness isn’t easy, but it’s vital.

When we recall all the things for which we have been forgiven, how can we not also forgive others? Father, help me today to let it go!    Father, I want to cast my cares on You, and leave all of my grudges at the Cross—finding freedom in You!
