“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. –Matthew 4:19-20 NIV
Pastor David Murphy, from Bayside Community Church, gave a message about the “Dust of the Rabbi.” In it he spoke about Jesus’ disciples. It seems that Jesus’ first disciples weren’t the sharpest knives in the proverbial drawer. They were Hebrew school dropouts! They didn’t make the grade, so to speak, to continue the education required to become rabbis. These young men—boys, really—were sent back home to learn their fathers’ trades: innkeeping, sheepherding, farming, fishing, blacksmithing, and woodworking. But Jesus saw something in them and asked them to follow Him and become fishers of people—he saw potential. You have unlimited potential. God places no limits on you. You’re restricted only by your own untrue beliefs about yourself and by the lies of the enemy you allow yourself to believe. You can walk on water. You can change the life of every person with whom you share the Good News of Christ. When God looks at you, He doesn’t see your mistakes, shame, guilt, and sin. He doesn’t see your past and everything you’ve failed to do or be. He sees the disciple you will become as soon as you surrender your will to His. He sees your potential!
Ask God to reveal your potential for His Kingdom on earth.
Pray for strength, wisdom, and courage to become a fisher of people.
