Be Still

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. –Exodus 14:14 NIV

“Be still.” It sounds like such a simple command, but it is often the most difficult directive to follow when we find ourselves in tough situations. As we go through trials in life, we quickly want to figure a way out, most often taking matters into our own hands. We try to do everything but sit back and be still. Learning to trust God in every aspect of our lives is definitely something that takes practice. When it comes to problems with our finances, marriages, careers, and parenting our children; our first inclination may be to say or do something that we will later regret. Or we may think we are wise in immediately consulting with family, friends, or even a therapist. However, when troubles come, the Lord calls us to be still. We need to stop, pray, and first seek God’s Word. We often underestimate the direct answers we have in Scripture.Often His Word will point us in the right direction. At other times, the answers are found in the waiting. Either way, we can trust that He will always have our best interests at heart. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) assures us that He has a plan to “prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” So, as difficulties arise, we need to trust our Heavenly Father when He tells us to be still. He will fight for us.
