For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. –Ephesians 2:8 NIV
In the Bible, Jesus speaks to Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. Nicodemus comes to Jesus in the night because he was a prominent Pharisee and afraid of the consequences of being seen with Jesus. He believes Jesus came from God, but he has many questions. Jesus shares John 3:3 (NLT) with him, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” Nicodemus replies in John 3:4 (NLT), “‘What do you mean?’ exclaimed Nicodemus. ‘How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?’” At first, Nicodemus did not understand that Jesus was talking about a spiritual rebirth not physical rebirth. We too should not misunderstand the term “born again.” When Jesus died on the Cross, He paid the penalty for our sins. If we choose to trust Jesus as our Savior, we are spiritually renewed, which is referred to as being “born again.” Romans 3:23 (NKJV) says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Choose today to acknowledge His sacrifice and accept Him as your personal Savior. He is waiting for you to be part of His forever family.
Father, Thank You for my spiritual rebirth and Your gift of eternal life!
