Breaking Down Strongholds

The king smashed all the altars to smithereens—the altar on the roof shrine of Ahaz, the various altars the kings of Judah had made, the altars of Manasseh that littered the courtyard of The Temple—he smashed them all. –2 Kings 23:14-15 MSG

The Bible tells us Josiah was 8 years of age when he became king. His father and grandfather who ruled before him did evil in the eyes of the Lord. During Josiah’s reign, he did all that was pleasing to God. While Josiah was king, the high priest discovered the Book of the Law that told of Passover. Josiah wanted to please God and fulfill the requirement of the Law, so from that time on he celebrated Passover. He wanted to tear down all the strongholds from his father and grandfather and return to what the Lord required. You can do the same. If you have generational strongholds hindering your Christian walk, tear them down. You don’t have to find the Book—you already have it. Read the Word of God—the Bible—and do battle. God’s power enables you to overthrow strongholds that have been embedded in your life. If you have been misguided, be like Josiah and don’t follow the generations before you—let God’s Word show you how to change course and get back onto His path of blessing!
