Detecting the Masqueraders

For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness…. –2 Corinthians 11:13-15 NIV

Today’s Scripture passage warns us about deceitful workers who masquerade as servants of righteousness, and Satan who disguises himself as an angel of light. Believers can be clueless in detecting deception being presented to them through the scheming works of Satan and his conniving workers-in-disguise.The following are some insightful clues regarding our archenemy. He is known as the accuser or deceiver (Revelation 20:10). He “walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). He is a murderer (John 8:44) and “ruler of this world” (John 12:31). He’s known to be our worst enemy. How do you gain personal victory during this spiritual masquerade party? Here are some winning ways to remain a strong follower of the Lord and keep deception at bay:• Stay in God’s Word and remain in prayer.• Clothe yourself with the armor of God.• Pay close attention to the leading of the Holy Spirit.• Resist temptation.• Keep growing and maturing in Christian character.• Associate with other believers. As a committed follower of Christ, you can rest assured that the final victory will be won when Jesus returns, the evil ones are exposed, and masquerading Satan is cast into the lake of fire.
