For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly. –Proverbs 5:23 NIV
The world today is full of examples of those who lack discipline. People manifest it in poor eating habits, poor physical ability, poor time management, and poor choice of relationships. In addition to undisciplined personal choices, people also applaud others who have no boundaries or self-control.The wilder and more bizarre the behavior, the more celebrated they seem to become. Even in the Christian community, there is a tendency to put-down those who live self-controlled lives. However, scripture clearly encourages leaders to be “self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined” (Titus 1:8 NIV) and for all believers to exhibit the godly fruit of “self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23). When implemented within the ordinary fabric of your life, order, structure, and discipline will keep you solidly on the path of spiritual growth.
Ask God to help you identify and correct areas of your life that lack discipline.
Rely on the Holy Spirit for understanding as you commit to the discipline of prayer and reading God’s Word.
