Have you ever felt at the end of your rope, as Elijah did, when he was alone in the wilderness? Have you then said, “I’m done. I’ve had enough. I don’t want to play this game anymore?” Oftentimes, such feelings arise when, like Elijah, you’ve isolated yourself with no one there to encourage you, pray for you, or offer you a hand up.Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NIV) explains how one, by himself, is very vulnerable. One is not able to warm himself, to pull himself out of a deep ditch, to carry himself if he is injured, or to fully defend himself if under attack. The Lord explained in Genesis 2:18 (NIV), “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” For accountability, love, comfort, and encouragement, God made both man and woman. Jesus understood this as He sent His disciples out in twos (Mark 6:7). And the Apostle Paul further explained the value of the many parts of one body in 1 Corinthians 12.The devil loves to isolate you, but God has called you to be joined with other believers. If you’ve found yourself walking through life alone, don’t worry. Help is close at hand: phone a friend, join a small group, seek out the love of the Lord and other people. Your friends and church family are just waiting for the opportunity to love on you. Don’t wander the desert alone, waiting to die. Find someone to walk with you through this valley and on to victory!
Thank God for providing you with friends to help you carry your burdens.
Ask God to show you someone who might be isolated and in need of your encouragement.
