Don’t You Know What to Do?

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father….” –John 14:8-9 NIV

You pray and pray about a situation, pleading for God to give direction, but all you get is silence. No obvious sign appears. No booming voice offers clarity. Days or weeks or months pass by and you keep praying for an answer. Frustration sets in. Doesn’t God hear you? Doesn’t He know you’re waiting? Then one day, as you begin praying that prayer again, a still small voice says, “Don’t you know? Don’t you know what to do?”From brand-new believers to lifetime Christ-followers, holy nudges and whispers get missed as answers to prayer. Subtlety in communication can be challenging. Even Jesus’ disciples often asked for the concrete and confirmable despite spending years in Christ’s presence. You are in good company when you seek something visibly supernatural. But it doesn’t always work that way.God reveals Himself through Scripture, giving insight into His will. Could your answer be found in the character of God? What do you already know about Him? First John 4:8 (NIV) says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”Perhaps all you need to do is pursue the most loving solution to your problem. It’s what Jesus would do. Now, go love.

Thank God for openly sharing His character through Scripture so we can not only know Him but also seek to be more like Him.

Pray that God would open your mind to facing and solving difficult situations in a loving, Christlike way.
