The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy… –John 10:10 NLT
You likely know John 10:10, but have you let it sink in that you are being hunted? There is a hunter who is wise, cunning, and crafty. He has been stalking man since Adam and Eve walked in the Garden with the Lord. He has nothing but time on his hands to study his prey, and he’s got you in his sights. The enemy is here to steal your victory by stealing your identity.Jesus has gifted to you both power and authority, both of which are rooted in your identity (see Luke 9:1; Romans 8:17). When you’ve lost your identity, you become incapacitated—completely unable to recognize, let alone exercise, your God-given power and authority. When the enemy is looking for a way in, he’ll study you for a long time. When he thinks you might be easier prey, he’ll begin “testing the fences,” looking for weaknesses. When he finds one, he’ll continue to press on it to see if it will break. But Father God calls to His beloved and draws you to Himself. He reaffirms your identity and ensures that you are rooted in Him. The enemy means to destroy you, but Jesus came to give you victory. If you’re struggling to understand or even stand in your true identity—found only in Him—ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you in a tangible, experiential way, so that you may exercise both your power and authority over the enemy.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you walk in your God-given power and authority.
Thank God that He has given you your true identity.
