It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. –Galatians 5:1 NIV
Freedom is often thought of as a place at which one arrives. But in reality, it isn’t a static state of existence that, once attained, is held forever. It’s more accurately described as a condition of rest that must be valiantly protected.Every day comes with a variety of choices, each beckoning us to move toward freedom or toward the yoke of slavery. The irony is that you can’t trust your feelings to determine which is which; since, often the yoke of slavery feels more comfortable and natural than the invitation of freedom. That’s why it’s so crucial to carefully examine your motives, beliefs, and actions against the truths of the Word of God. In this way, you can be sure that the choices you make will draw you in the direction of liberty in Christ and not in the direction of the destructiveness of self.Paul exhorted the Galatians (and you) to “Stand firm.” Resolute determination and purposeful action is always required to hold fast to the freedom that is given to you by Jesus.
God, thank You for the freedom purchased for me by Jesus.
Today, Lord, I ask You to help me recognize and walk away from anything that leads me away from You.
