My thoughts are not your thoughts, and my ways are not your ways,” declares the Lord. “Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts. –Isaiah 55:8-9 GW
Full disclosure takes many forms: Admitting the five extra errands that must be accomplished on the way to an outing; the 90 pages of a mortgage document; and the risks and recovery process for a surgical procedure. Why is full disclosure important? We have a right to know what to expect! But God doesn’t operate that way. In our relationship with the Lord, we need a total paradigm shift. It is human nature wanting to know what’s coming. We expect a full understanding of all that will happen. But God says, “Trust Me; have faith in Me.” We think, “No! I need to know what’s coming!” Yet again, God says, “Trust Me.” Our great, big, wonderful God is calling us to trust Him when life seems full of questions and inconsistencies. In fact, He says that we’re not going to understand everything, and He isn’t going to give us details because we just won’t get it.He clearly explains in Isaiah 55 that His ways are not our ways. Living by faith, and not by sight, is challenging; but it becomes easier as we mature in our walk with the Lord. And, as we face today’s questions, perhaps wondering if He has forgotten our names or one of His promises; we know that He remembers us, is never-changing, and loves us more than we can possibly fathom.
Thank God for His consistent character of love and faithfulness, even when circumstances make no sense.
