The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. –Romans 8:16-17 NIV
As believers in the work of the Cross, we are heirs of God, sons and daughters of a King. As heirs, we inherit what belongs to the king. Thus, as children of God, we inherit the Kingdom of God. In verse 17 (above), we read, “…we share in his sufferings so that we may share in his glory.” Being Christians, we will go through trials and tribulations because we are following Christ. For many, it is not easy being a Christian. In some countries, it’s illegal to be a Christ follower. Christians are still being persecuted to this day. We should be thankful that we live in a free country. We can freely serve God and attend church without fearing for our lives.Being a Christian doesn’t come with many rules or responsibilities. Our love of Christ and recognition of his sacrifice motivates us to make decisions which honor Him and guide us to do the right thing. Paul assures us in Romans 10:9 NIV, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” We ought to continuously thank God for His sacrifice and our amazing inheritance.
Thank God for adopting you into His eternal family.
