But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” So he said, “Here I am.” –Genesis 22:11 NKJV
Hineni is a Hebrew word, pronounced hee-ney-nee, meaning “Here am I.” In Isaiah 6:8 NIV, the obedient prophet recounts his quick response to the Lord, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”And I said, “Here am I (hineni). Send me!”The Bible is filled with stories of courageous men and women who answered God’s call with these words. When Abraham was called by God to sacrifice his son Isaac, he said,“Here I am” (Genesis 22:1 NIV). Moses replied to God, “Here I am” (Exodus 3:4 NIV) when the Lord called to him out of the burning bush. In Luke 1:38 (NLV), Mary responded to the angel of the Lord, “I am willing to be used of the Lord. Let it happen to me as you have said.”Are we prepared to offer ourselves to the Lord’s service not even knowing what might be required? As we come into His presence, through prayer and worship, the Lord will assuredly have work for us. Each of us must be ready to say, “Here am I, Lord! Hineni! Send me.”
Ask God to help you to be ready to serve Him and others.
Pray, “Here am I, Lord. Send me.”
