Life's Disappointments

You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. –Psalm 139:5 NLT

Everyone experiences letdowns. Some of the plans we make will work out, while others won’t. But one thing is certain—we can never completely escape disappointments. The important thing to remember is that God is always in control. Proverbs 16:9 (NIV) states, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” He paved the way, and He knows exactly what our next steps will be. We must not hide our worries from Him. Rather, we need to be honest with God about how we feel, not allowing disappointment to control our lives.

If we keep our eyes on our problems, we will surely stumble. We must trust that the Lord will fulfill our purpose here on earth. The results may be different from what we have expected, but in the end, we will see that it was the better plan. God’s ways are different from ours, but He is the author of our story, and He knows how it ends. If the future looks unclear, we must trust the One who goes in front and behind us. He is always one step ahead, working on our behalf. Our happiness does not depend on our circumstances. As long as God is leading us, then we are in good hands.
