May Our Eyes Be Opened

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. –Hebrews 11:1 NLT

There are pressures and battles every day in this world. We may feel like we are surrounded on every side. We will probably all feel like this at some point in life.In the Bible, the king of Aram sends an army to kill the prophet Elisha in 2 Kings 6. Elisha’s servant is with him and sees the mighty army and is terrified. However, Elisha tells him in verse 16 to not fear because “those who are with us are more than those with them.” The servant could not see what Elisha saw. Then 2 Kings 6:17-18 (NIV) tells us, “And Elisha prayed, ‘Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. As the enemy came down toward him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, ‘Strike this army with blindness.’ So, he struck them with blindness, as Elisha had asked.” God is ready and waiting to fight for us. Even when we can’t see Him or feel Him, we can have confidence He is with us through our burdens as well as our blessings. While our battle might not be exactly as Elisha’s, it’s just as real to us.
