By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me—a prayer to the God of my life. –Psalm 42:8 NIV
A death in the family. Is anyone ever ready for that kind of news? Especially when it’s sudden. Even when it’s expected, it doesn’t get easier. You may find yourself wading into the deep darkness of pain and helplessness. But sometimes in the midnight hours of the soul, a distant song plays. A sweet melody of comfort that stands out in contrast to the dark scene before you, one that pierces the blackness as a solitary assurance that even amid the confusion and questions,God is with you, still active, still present. Isn’t that exactly what you need to know when you feel a deep ache in your soul? You are not alone. You have not been abandoned. It’s not always easily understood by us why God permits circumstances to unfold the way they do, but what you can know is that even at the moment when heartbreak settles over you like a heavy blanket, you can choose to believe and turn to God instead of away from Him. And even when you feel almost suffocated, if you press in a little closer toward Jesus, you may hear a song in the night that keeps you going until the sun comes up again.
Jesus, help me hear Your song of hope that will sustain me one day at a time.
God, help me hold on to what I know is true in this time of pain and loss.
