Persistent Pursuit

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you…. –Psalm 63:1 NIV

It’s easy to be persistent when it comes to something we really want. We may shop for an extended time to find the exact desired item, persist tirelessly to convince someone to agree with our opinion, or search thoroughly for a lost item. But when it comes to seeking God, we rarely have the same diligence. Our determined focus on more trivial things reveals how much we undervalue the honor of knowing Christ. Since our culture endlessly floods us with distractions that can cloud our minds and hearts, we must be careful to keep our attention sharpened on the true spiritual treasures that are just waiting to be uncovered. Now is the time for each of us to honestly examine our lives to see what may be hindering a truly passionate pursuit of God. We need to consider ways to carve out time each day to be alone with Him. Seeking His guidance and listening for His voice should become a part of our routine. As this becomes our habit, we, like the apostle Paul, may find ourselves concluding that nothing is as valuable as a relationship with Christ. As Philippians 3:8 (NIV) states, everything is “a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus…”

prayer focuses

Lord, help me to gain a true understanding of the value of knowing You.

Jesus, help me keep my focus sharpened on You.
