Prayer & Fast - Day 16

Exodus 20:1-3; Joshua 24:14-18; Galatians 5:1

One of the most pervasive themes throughout the Bible is freedom. Stories, illustrations, and allusions to freedom abound from Genesis to Revelation. Perhaps this is because another pervasive theme in Scripture is slavery. Joseph was sold into slavery. The Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians for 400 years. The Northern Kingdom of Israel and Southern Kingdom of Judah were enslaved to captivity by Assyria and Babylon, respectively. Slavery is a painful part of Biblical history. Slavery is also a painful part of our own culture’s history. In fact, it remains an ugly reality today physically, emotionally, and spiritually.Consider some things you may be enslaved to today. Fear. Insecurity. Sin. Worry. Addiction. Pride. Busyness. Performance. False identities. Co-dependency. Is there anything you would add to that list? The good news is that Jesus came to set us fully free and as we read, it is for freedom that we have been set free! It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that we can live in freedom.

Bayside Community Church

At the beginning of each year, as a church, we set aside time for prayer and fasting. We believe God deserves our full attention and our best. So, before we fill our calendars for the year, we want to listen.  We say with Samuel, “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening”. (1 Sam 3:9)

These daily readings are collection of thoughts and scripture to use as prompts to invite you to dig deeper - to listen and lean in. Use the scriptures as a springboard to explore further. Consider praying through the scriptures given and let the Word of God speak.

We are praying that you will hear from God in personal and powerful ways over the next 14 days and beyond!
