Prayer & Fast - Day 20

Mark 5:1-20; John 4:4-15, 39

A demoniac and a Samaritan woman at a well. One would think they would have nothing in common, but they do. They both encountered Christ and were powerfully set free to tell their stories. The telling of their stories had a great impact and resulted in others also being set free.In Mark, Jesus and his disciples go to “the other side”. No Jew would go to the other side. This was the Decapolis, a pagan land. No Jew would go, expect Jesus. The first time Jesus and his disciples go, there is no crowd to greet them, only 1 man, a demon-possessed man. Jesus casts out those demons and sets this man free to tell his story. The next time Jesus goes to the other side, crowds greet Him and He feeds 4000. (Mark 8, Matthew 15) What happened? The demoniac told his story of freedom and lives were changed. In John, a Samaritan woman encounters Jesus, is set free from a life pattern of sin, and tells her story to the town. John 4:39 says, “Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony, ‘He told me everything I ever did.’” (NIV) She told her story of freedom and lives were changed.Oh, the power of a story. Oh, the power of a story of freedom. Do you have a story of freedom? Who will you tell it to? The encouragement from Scripture today is to tell your story. Our freedom impacts others and our world needs to hear our stories. Our world needs an encounter with Jesus to be set free. Freedom isn’t something we keep to ourselves. Tell your story today and pray for it to have an eternal impact.

prayer focuses

In what ways is the Holy Spirit speaking to You from God’s Word?  How can you apply this to your life? Take some time to write and reflect your thoughts.

Prayer Father, give us the courage to tell others today how an encounter with Jesus set us free. We pray for our family members, our community, our world – we want freedom for them, the freedom found only in Jesus. Holy Spirit, use the power of our stories to spark a revival. I know someone who needs freedom, right now I pray for . . .

Bayside Community Church

At the beginning of each year, as a church, we set aside time for prayer and fasting. We believe God deserves our full attention and our best. So, before we fill our calendars for the year, we want to listen.  We say with Samuel, “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening”. (1 Sam 3:9)

These daily readings are collection of thoughts and scripture to use as prompts to invite you to dig deeper - to listen and lean in. Use the scriptures as a springboard to explore further. Consider praying through the scriptures given and let the Word of God speak.

We are praying that you will hear from God in personal and powerful ways over the next 14 days and beyond!
