Prayer & Fast - Day 4

Exodus 33:11; Psalm 17:6; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; Luke 11:1-4

In any relationship, a conversation is how we get to know one another. It’s how we grow closer over time. Similarly, this is how we grow in our relationship with God and get to know Him. Over and over throughout Scripture, we see the people of God talk to Him passionately and honestly. They question, they plead, they cry out, they praise, they confess, all through - prayer.Prayer is our internet access to the Father. It is the connective tissue between the seen and the unseen. It is simply having a conversation with God. Prayer involves both speaking and listening. Exodus 33:11 says, “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.” (NIV) The phrase, the Lord “spoke to Moses” occurs 54 times in the NIV. Hear that again, the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. What a beautiful description of prayer. And when friends speak face to face, they look at each other, they talk to each other and they listen to each other.Jesus modeled a praying life for His disciples. They watched Him time and again go off to a quiet place to talk and to listen to His Father. In Luke 11, the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray. It is the only thing the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to do. They didn’t ask Him to teach them to preach or perform miracles, they asked Him to teach them to pray. They knew what we need to remind ourselves of today, there is power in prayer. Power to save, to heal, to rescue, to overcome, to deliver, to give help and hope when it is needed the most. Power. In the mighty name of Jesus, let’s pray . . .

Bayside Community Church

At the beginning of each year, as a church, we set aside time for prayer and fasting. We believe God deserves our full attention and our best. So, before we fill our calendars for the year, we want to listen.  We say with Samuel, “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening”. (1 Sam 3:9)

These daily readings are collection of thoughts and scripture to use as prompts to invite you to dig deeper - to listen and lean in. Use the scriptures as a springboard to explore further. Consider praying through the scriptures given and let the Word of God speak.

We are praying that you will hear from God in personal and powerful ways over the next 14 days and beyond!
