Mark 2:1-12
In this reading from the Gospel of Mark, Jesus heals a paralyzed man. Imagine what his life would have been like, alone, on a mat. He has to rely on others for absolutely everything. About this paralytic, author Ken Gire writes this, “Dependency. Humiliation. Confinement. Boredom. Loneliness. Frustration. Shame. Despair. These are just a few of the entries in the thesaurus that define life on a three-by-six-foot mat.”Jesus is this man’s only hope as there were no neurosurgeons or specialists to consult, no medical breakthroughs pending. Jesus is this man’s only hope and his friends know and believe it. For all that is wrong in this man's life, he has 1 thing going for him - friends! And not just any friends but friends with FAITH. These 4 friends literally carried this man and did whatever it would take to get him to Jesus. It’s an extraordinary display of biblical community and faith-filled family.Think of a time when the faith of a friend "carried" you through a season. Who are those people in your life that you lean on when your faith is wavering? Pause and text them a word of thanks. We may be walking and talking but is there anything right now that has you "paralyzed" in soul or spirit? Who will you share that with today to provide prayer and support? In verse 9, Jesus asked the Pharisees, "which is easier to say - your sins are forgiven or rise up and walk?" Well, neither are easy, both are possible!! Is there anything in your life right now where you are asking God for the impossible? He still moves mountains and makes the impossible possible!
What is the Holy Spirit saying to You from God's Word? How can you apply this to your life? Take some time to reflect on today's reading.
Prayer Lord Jesus, I need friends like this, help me to find them. I feel paralyzed and need Your power over . . .
