Rest in Peace

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. –1 Corinthians 15:55-57 NIV

Nobody likes to think about death; but turning away from the uncomfortable subject, or making jokes about what lies on the other side, won’t erase the uneasiness each person may feel when confronted with the end of life. Without Jesus Christ as Savior, death is a cold finality that doesn’t coincide with the words “rest in peace.”In Luke 16:19-31 (NIV), Jesus explains through a parable that Heaven is not the destiny for everyone. And hell will not be a place where people live it up with parties, laughter, and music, while enjoying the company of friends. In this story, the rich man wasn’t anticipating his brothers joining him in Hades. Instead, his desperate plea was for his family to not join him. That’s because he was and would forevermore be residing in a place of eternal “torment” and isolation.Thankfully, there is peace and joy waiting on the other side of life. It comes through a decision that each of us can make today. Realizing that sin has caused us to be separated from God, repenting of our sins, and inviting Christ to reign in our lives, we can be assured of eternal salvation. His death and resurrection forever broke the power of sin and death. Jesus offers us both rest and peace now and for all eternity.

prayer focuses

If you have not accepted Jesus into your heart as Lord and Savior, consider inviting Him now.

Praise the Lord for His amazing gift of salvation.
