And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. –Philippians 1:6 ESV
Some of life’s greatest lessons are learned in reverse. We wish we’d never gone there, done that, or spewed those hateful words at him or her. We cannot change the past, but we can let the past change us when we consider it as our teacher and not as our accuser.Pastor Warren Wiersbe wisely said, “Let the past be a rudder to guide you, not an anchor to drag you down.” We ought to avoid spending today obsessing over what happened yesterday.Instead, each time we find ourselves ruing a past sin, we should thank God for bringing us out of it. Each of us should praise God for being our hiding place and for protecting us from trouble. As we incline our ears to listen, He will surround us with His songs of deliverance (see Psalm 32:7 ESV). We will be blessed as we take the time to acknowledge how far we’ve come, what we’ve done right, and the positive changes we’ve made.We are not perfect yet, but each of us is definitely a work in progress.
Thank God that He uses your past to teach you and help you grow—not to condemn you.
Ask Him to help you to listen more closely to His voice as you continue on His path for you.
