Spiritual Fruit: Faithfulness

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! –Galatians 5:22-23 NLT

Faithfulness is the quality of being consistently full of faith. This fruit of the Spirit is characterized by loyalty, constancy, and unwavering trust in the Lord. It requires each of us to move forward each day, trusting in God without answers or visible evidence. “…And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…” (Hebrews 12:1-2 NIV).

Without the Holy Spirit’s help, it would be impossible to keep our eyes steadfastly fixed on Jesus, believing unwaveringly in God’s mercy and love for us. The Holy Spirit empowers us to trust what God says in the Bible, and not necessarily what the world or our own eyes tell us. Proverbs 3:5 NIV states, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” We are to trust in the Lord in every situation, whether it is a minor incident or a major crisis, knowing that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28 NIV).
