The Armor of God

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. –Ephesians 6:12 NIV

This world is a combat zone. Day by day, hour by hour, we face spiritual battles, and our enemy is real. He wants nothing more than to bring defeat. How can we stand against this foe? The only sure solution is to trust God. He tells us through the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV), “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”How do we live this? We put on the helmet of salvation—for protection of our thoughts, the breastplate of righteousness—to avoid sin, the belt of truth—to have God’s Word by our side, the shoes…of readiness—to always be prepared to share the gospel of peace, the shield of faith—to extinguish all threats thrown our way by Satan, and the sword of the Spirit (which is the Word of God)—to demolish strongholds. This armor describes the protection available to us as we work through each spiritual battle in life. God will fight for us. We must stand on His Word.

Lord, help me to utilize all of the armor available to me as I face spiritual battles today.

Lord, help me to recognize and stand strong against the devil’s schemes.
