The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. –John 10:10 NIV
Satan has many names in the Bible. The Hebrew word for Satan means “to oppose, accuse, or obstruct.” In Greek, the name means “adversary.” These meanings define exactly who Satan is—our adversary, whose ultimate desire is to destroy us. First Peter 5:8 (ESV) says, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Satan has an agenda, and he is our opponent. However, he is not standing in front of us with horns, a red tail, and pitchfork. He is a hard-to-recognize, sneaky counterfeit looking for opportunities to destroy the people of God. His intentions are always evil. Nothing good can come from him. Satan’s main purpose is to get us to worship and follow him, instead of God. However, we need to remember the Greater One who lives inside us. When the Lord returns for His children, Satan will lose all his power. Revelation 12:10 (NIV) says, “Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: ‘Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.’” Halleluiah! God wins!
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you resist Satan and his schemes to destroy you.
Spend time thanking the Lord for the blood of Jesus. Because of His blood, Satan has no power over you!
