He refreshes my soul… –Psalm 23:3 NIV
Have you ever awoken in the middle of the night, so thirsty that you get up, walk to the kitchen, and grab the coldest and iciest drink you can find? You drink that ice-cold drink as quickly as you can. Then slowly you begin to feel the quenching effects of that drink until your thirst is gone. Sometimes our soul gets so dry due to the excess baggage we allow this world to dump on us. Because of all the seemingly unsurmountable cares of our lives, we coil up in self-pity, anger, and sometimes bitterness and resentment. Psalm 23:3 says, “He refreshes my soul.” To be refreshed is to be strengthened, energized, or revived. The Lord your God can and will refresh and revive your thirsty soul. Jesus is the “living water” (John 4:10). When pain grips your heart and you see yourself in the desert of despair, allow the Good Shepherd to lead you out of the desert and lead you to the green pastures beside the still waters. Cry out at this very moment to Jesus and He will quench your thirst.
Lord, may I always have refreshment for my soul through the outpouring of your sweet Holy Spirit!
Help and strengthen me, Holy Spirit, through my dry seasons.
