The Joy of Summertime Fruit

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! –Galatians 5:22-23 NLT

Don’t you love when summer fruits are in season? You wait and wait until your favorite ones appear. It’s so worth waiting for summertime produce to arrive. On a hot summer afternoon, nothing tastes better than a delightful fruit salad prepared with fresh, seasonal fruit.Just like various fruits take time to develop before we enjoy them, it takes time for the fruit of God’s Spirit to mature inside us. It does not happen overnight nor do all nine fruits generally mature at the same rate. God knows that some of His attributes take longer to produce in His children than others. You become fruitier by abiding in the Vine, and through the work of God’s Spirit within you. In time, all nine fruits—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—will appear; making God happy and others delighted to hang around you because of God’s life-giving fruit sprouting from you. Abide in Him and His fruitfulness will flow through you (John 15:5).

prayer focuses

Slowly recite the fruits of the Spirit and ask God to show you the fruits in which you may need to grow and mature.

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you become a flourishing Christian who bears good fruit all year round.
