The Ladder

Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. –Genesis 28:12 NKJV

In Genesis 28:12, Jacob had a vision where he saw a ladder, or stairway, that went from earth to Heaven. During this dream, God revealed Himself to Jacob. He reminded Jacob of the covenant He made with Abraham—that the land he laid upon would be given to him and his descendants; that God would protect and be with him; and that He would bring him back to the land He promised. Jacob’s ladder signifies some important things. God provided the ladder. It was the connection between Him and humankind.Humans cannot reach Heaven on our own. No one can pay their way, behave their way, nor good deed their way into Heaven. God provided the way to connect us to Himself. God sent Jesus as the One and only Way for us to be saved from our sins and enter Heaven’s gates.Jesus is our Jacob’s ladder who came from Heaven, so we can reconnect with the Father. To enjoy everlasting life with God, all we need to do is “believe” in Jesus Christ. When we believe in the fulfillment of Jesus’ early mission, we are assured life in Heaven. Jesus is the Ladder who connects us to God.
