The Perfect Father

Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth. –Ephesians 6:2-3 NKJV

Whether you call him Dad, Papa, Pops, or Father, this man’s role, as head of the home, demands selfless sacrifices with heavy responsibilities. God commissions a father to care for the children entrusted to him, to teach them God’s ways—leading by example.Today is a great day for each of us to show love and respect for our father with a card, gift, or words of gratitude and affirmation. But today may be challenging for some. Perhaps one’s father didn’t fulfill his responsibilities as he should have or was abusive. Some have grown up without a father, or had one who is no longer living. They may feel fatherless. Whether our earthly father is one of the best or has fallen short; there’s a perfect Dad waiting to embrace each of us as His own. His name is God the Father. He’s good and full of unconditional love. He wants to adopt each of us, making us King’s kids. If we don’t know the Father, we can ask Jesus to introduce us to His father.God promises this, “I will be a Father to you, And you will be my sons and daughters...” (2 Corinthians 6:18 NKJV). Let’s honor our heavenly Father today by honoring our earthly dads with love, respect, prayer, and forgiveness when needed. And dads—Happy Father’s Day!
