Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. –Matthew 11:28 NIV
You probably read the title of today’s post and know exactly what that means. You know the strain of relational stress, the ache of emotional heartbreak, the burden of health concerns, and/or the pressure of problems that seem to have no hope of resolution. For believers, the load can multiply because God can feel very far away as your prayers hang in the air, dancing around your head like so many smoke-filled bubbles. While you might experience the temptation to worry and feel excessively burdened under the weight of the complexities of your day-to-day problems, faith in Christ offers you rest and relief for your exhausted soul. His offer of rest begins with a spiritual repair to your relationship with Him, while also extending an invitation to you for emotional wholeness as well. However, what He offers isn’t accessed through personal effort, a complex self-help program, or a 10-step accountability group.Jesus simply offers Himself.Though you may never see things work out as you’ve planned; in Him, you can unburden your soul of worry, trusting that even the difficulties with no obvious solution can be used for your good and His glory!
Jesus, show me how to rest in You today and give You the burdens that weigh heavy on my heart.
God, I know You are near to me. Help me notice Your presence and receive Your comfort.
