Twenty Years Later

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. –Psalm 147:3 NIV

Twenty years later and the memories still linger from that fateful day that changed the United States forever—September 11, 2001. For those of us “lucky” enough not to have been directly affected by the attacks of 9/11, this day brings back memories of where we were when we heard the news along with sadness for the victims, their families, and our country. However, remembering this day is much different for those who were living in the vicinities of the attacks, who had loved ones on the hijacked airlines, or who had family members enlist to fight for America’s freedom after this heinous day. For these people, the heartbreak goes much deeper.Regardless of which group you find yourself in, God is always there, ready to heal your broken heart and bind up all your wounds (Psalm 147:3). He is your refuge and shield when faced with what seems like insurmountable sadness (Psalm 119:114). The path to emotional healing might not always be smooth or easy. However, you can be confident that God is on the path with you. When you feel sadness, bitterness, or despair building up in your heart over heartbreaking events like 9/11, ask the Holy Spirit to replace your sadness with peace, your bitterness with forgiveness, and your despair with hope. Let today be a day remembrance not a day of sorrow!

prayer focuses

Thank You, Father, for being my refuge and shield! Even when the world seems to be crashing around me, I trust that You are still in control.

Holy Spirit, please comfort those people who were directly affected by the attacks of 9/11 and fill them with Your peace today.
