Your Dad

Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? –Matthew 7:9-10 NIV

All of us have an earthly father, and all fathers are different. Some earthly fathers do things we think a good dad should do. They encourage, support, and lift up their children. They put their children’s needs before their own. They show up, make time, lead effectively, discipline fairly, and love unconditionally.Other earthly fathers either can’t or won’t be the dads we need. Some may abuse, leaving visible or invisible scars. Some withhold affection and encouragement. Others magnify every mistake and ignore every achievement. The good news is that you have a perfect Father in Heaven who always has your best interests at heart. He has promised to love you, fight for you, and provide for you. He is always available, gives you strength and courage, listens intently, and speaks gently. If your earthly father was a good dad, he was reflecting the traits of your heavenly Father. But if your earthly father didn’t measure up, be assured that your heavenly Father will more than compensate for what your childhood lacked. No human being—not even a parent—determines your worth. Only God does that—and in His eyes, you are truly priceless.
