Your God-Tailored Clothes

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. –Colossians 3:12 NIV

If treated to a new wardrobe in exchange for your present one, chances are you’ll find yourself in a quandary. Regardless of how much you would love or need new clothing, it could be challenging to part with your old, ratty favorites. As God’s chosen people, we are to discard our old nature and former ways of being; and in exchange, clothe ourselves with new attire that God desires to tailor into our heart, mind, and soul. It’s not an easy commission. But with God’s Spirit, our cooperation, and much time, we can be refashioned into the image of our Creator. What shall we do? We need to clothe ourselves with a new wardrobe. Apparel that’s fitting for the new person God is altering us to become. As we wear our new God-tailored clothes—compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience—chosen by our fabulous Designer, God, we grow, mature, and become more Christlike in thought, speech, and conduct. And regardless of everything else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment that never fades, never goes out of style, and never comes with strings attached. This virtuous apparel pleases God, blesses others, and fits the refashioned you more suitably.
